Maclean - The cryogenic cleaning process for helicopter engine MRO
Safran has deployed new, cleaner and more environmentally friendly methods for cleaning helicopter engine components during maintenance and repair. Among these processes, cryogenic cleaning: this dry-ice blasting process involves directing a current of pressurized air containing frozen CO2 or dry ice over the surface of the part.
The deployment of cryogenic cleaning is part of Maclean: With financial support from the European Commission’s Life program, the Maclean project has enabled to research and develop alternative techniques for cleaning engine parts during the repair process. It minimizes the impact on health and the environment by substantially reducing the quantity of chemicals used during aero-engine maintenance.
