Vulcain Chamber Valve (VC)
Mass 31 kg
Fluid compatibility L/GH2, L/GOx, L/GN2, GHe
Maximal pressure 192 bar
ESEOD 118 mm
Flow rate (LH2 – Lox) 35.7 kg/s – 198 kg/s
The Chamber Valve (VC) is part of the Ariane 5 and 6 Vulcain cryogenic engine. The VC provides very low propellant leakage tightness under cryogenic conditions and at the same time a very low pressure drop in open position.

A model, two functions
The Chamber Valve (VC) is a bi-stable pneumatic ball valve, designed to operate as the oxygen chamber valve as well as the hydrogen chamber valve.
Design, development, assembly & testing of flow regulation valves for space launcher engines and stages
Safran Aero Boosters specializes in flow regulation valves for space propulsion. With a strong focus on Research and Technology, the company is a partner on most future European launcher propulsion programs. Safran Aero Boosters’s equipment is developed under extreme conditions of temperature, pressure, vibration and flow and has demonstrated 100% reliability over 45 years. The company is able to hardness this high-level expertise to provide flow regulation valves (pneumatic/electric – linear/rotative) for most of propulsion systems on launchers.
