Missions of the front bearing support

  • Transmit engine torque via the low-pressure compressor shaft
  • Maintain the drive line via the bearing supports
  • Lubricate the roller bearings and provide the air/oil seal for the support
  • The design of the support addresses the integration of devices for load limiting (decoupler), damping (squeeze film), monitoring (vibration sensor), etc;
  • The dimensions of the support’s main components (low-pressure compressor shaft, bearing supports, etc.) are designed in consideration of stiffness, resistance to fatigue loads and ultimate loads.

Specialist partner

The bearing support, which is closely linked with the low pressure compressor, is a complex module with a number of interface requirements and issues relating to the dynamics of the engine as a whole and to the oil system.

Safran Aero Boosters has developed this product for CFM56, LEAP, Silvercrest, CF34-10 and GP7200 engines in partnership with Safran Aircraft Engines, General Electric and Pratt & Whitney.
