A comprehensive offer
Safran Engineering Services covers a comprehensive package ranging from conceptual assessments: all required engineering activities engineering activities up to and including, production and installation support, ground and flight testing as well as equipment qualification.
We further provide customized installation kits including 3D printed parts, sheet metal assemblies and parts, pre-configured wiring harnesses with connectors and electrical accessories, placards and all required standard installation material (screws, washers, nuts, rivets, etc).
Wide ranging skillset
Our skills and competencies as well as terms of approval include avionics and electrical systems, communication systems, special mission systems, metallic and composite structures, seats and cabin interior, aircraft manual supplements, technical documentation, crew briefing material and equipment qualification.

Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) - Bombardier CRJ900
- Integration of a communication management unit with integrated VHF Datalink Radio
- Utilization of existing VHF Antenna 3 provisions
- Message display/entry through existing Multifunctional Control and Display Unit (MCDU)
- Connection to Aircraft Aural and Visual Alerting System (Flight Phase Dependent)
- Interface with several avionic systems (GPS, Transponder)
- Data loading port installation
- EASA STC and FAA validation

Electronic Flight Bag Installation
Safran Engineering Services was responsible for the design, development, integration and certification activities.
The fleet of aircraft includes Boeing B747-family, Bombardier CRJ900, Embraer 190-195
- Removal of existing EFB installation and integration of a Collins Aircraft Interface Device (AID) with integrated EFB data management and tablet interfaces
- Wireless transmission of data via WLAN and GSM (EMC assessment)
- Interface with several avionic systems (DFDR, MAU, ADIRU, etc.)
- Compliance demonstration to Cyber Security for ACARS interface (AMC 20-42)
- Mechanical and electrical installation kits (ERJ19x – 26 kits, B748 – 20 kits, B744 – 10 kits)
- Certification as EASA minor change

Airbus A330 Cabin Upgrade
Safran Engineering Services was responsible for cabin upgrade modifications of an Airbus A330 aircraft.
Safran Engineering Services took responsibility as the design authority to supply the full system architecture & integration, the electrical and mechanical design, ground & flight test support, as well as the technical publications for the following scope:
- Adaptation of galley lights
- Installation of deco lights
- Design and installation of deco panels
- Adaption of PSC
The main activities in this MOD included:

Optical and Radio Frequency Constellation on Aircraft (ORCA) Camera System
- Payload with HiRes camera system and electronics mounted on aft lower tail section
- European Space Agency (ESA) funded project with 7 partners located in 4 countries
- Safran Engineering Services is responsible for payload baseplate, Radom design, structural and electrical aircraft integration and, certification (STC)
- Payload environmental qualification (DO-160) under Safran Engineering Services STC
- Installation of payload with consideration of aerodynamics, CFD, vibration and buffeting
- Project includes 5 demonstrator units and 6 months pilot operation

CARIBIC Installation - Airbus A350
- Scientific measurement system installation in a cargo container
- Quick install / remove in forward cargo bay on regular passenger flights
- SES is responsible for aircraft integration and certification (EASA STC)
- 10KW power interface, aircraft data interface
- Installation of air inlet probe with consideration of aerodynamics, Computered Fluid Dynamics (CFD), vibration and buffeting, icing, bird strike
- Installation of heated tubing and container connect panel with consideration of cargo safety aspects (fire protection / ETOPS)

Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS)
- Assessment of all light sources and definition of NVIS compliance method (filter, dim, turn off)
- Integration of NVIS compatible lighting, lighting control and filters
- Certification through EASA STC and local authority validation
- Qualification of NVG as part of the EASA STC (DO-275)
- Production of installation kits
- Flight Test with Airbus Helicopters

Emergency Locator Transmitter Survival (ELT) retrofit - Airbus A330
- Removal of existing Emergency Locator Transmitter Survival and their support structures
- Relocation of Personal Breathing Equipment (PBE) for fleet harmonization
- Installation of new ELTs
