Safran is proud to power the Cessna Citation Hemisphere® for NetJets

Business

October 15, 2018, Orlando, Florida (USA)

At the 2018 NBAA Convention, Textron Aviation and NetJets® announced an agreement for the option to purchase up to 150 Cessna Citation Hemisphere® business jets powered by Safran’s Silvercrest engine. In 2016 Textron Aviation Inc. selected the new-generation Silvercrest to power its latest aircraft, the Cessna Citation Hemisphere®. The Silvercrest is the only existing engine purpose-designed for the large-cabin premium bizjet segment.

“ We are thrilled with this joint announcement by two world leaders in the business jet market, a formidable springboard for the commercial success of the Hemisphere platform and the Silvercrest engine,” said Olivier Andriès, Chief Executive Officer of Safran Aircraft Engines. “During the visit by Textron Aviation and NetJets to our Villaroche facility earlier this year, the two firms expressed a strong vote of confidence in Safran’s capabilities and in the Silvercrest engine. We are fully committed to delivering the best engine for the Hemisphere.”

Safran brings its long-standing experience as a leading commercial and military engine manufacturer to the Citation Hemisphere, the first new design in the large-cabin segment in more than 20 years.

“We have worked steadfastly with Safran to understand the development stages of the Silvercrest engine,” said Brad Thress, Textron Aviation Senior Vice President, Engineering. “Throughout our review, we have remained confident that the Silvercrest is the best choice for the Hemisphere, and we are pleased to see Safran’s enduring commitment to delivering it on time and target.”

As the launch customer for the Citation Hemisphere program, NetJets is working closely with Textron Aviation on the design of the clean-sheet Citation Hemisphere powered by Silvercrest engines to ensure the aircraft exceeds the discerning standards of NetJets owners.

With a combination of unrivaled fuel consumption, longer range and higher cruise speed, the Silvercrest-powered Hemisphere will also deliver excellent performance on short runways, a fast rate of climb and a reduced environmental footprint. The engine features the latest field-proven technologies, giving it unrivaled performance in its thrust class of 9,000 to 12,000 lbs.
