Safran collaborates with IEEE to set up an industry-academia next generation e-mobility centre at CHRIST, Kengeri campus, Bangalore

Corporate social responsibility

Bangalore, India – September 10, 2018

As part of its corporate social responsibility commitment, Safran Engineering Services India has signed a partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, to set up a state of the art e-mobility research and development facility at CHRIST (deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus, Bangalore.

This collaboration aims at creating an electric vehicle lab to develop improved power system for charging, smarter electric drive systems and Internet of things technologies for electric vehicles. The concept of distributed electrical generation is an emerging field associated with smart grid. This project would enable the integration of renewable energy source, mainly solar energy and the ability to convert even the electric vehicle as a distributed power generation source, which could also benefit to a large population.

We are convinced that electric mobility is the mobility of tomorrow. We committed to this project for its social responsibility aspect. It focuses mainly on sensitizing and providing solar based electricity generation for the rural and the urban areas and also promoting the utilization of more electric vehicles by providing charging infrastructure at various distributed locations. The decentralization of the power generation also ensures free power to the rural and backward communities of India”, said Damodaran Subramanian, Managing Director of Safran Engineering Services India.

The e-mobility lab at CHRIST University is an excellent example of collaboration between industry-academia and a professional body like IEEE to work to address challenges in electric mobility. IEEE would bring in subject matter experts in power and energy, vehicular technology and other relevant technical societies to provide the mentoring. IEEE standards in e-mobility domain will enable to create solutions that can help in advancing technology for the benefit of humanity" said Harish Mysore, Sr. Director IEEE India Operations.

This endeavor will help students and faculty of CHRIST (deemed to be University), to have a better preparedness towards the “holistic next generation pedagogy" in bringing about a synergy by linking academia and industry with the societal needs” added Dr. Iven Jose, Associate Dean, CHRIST, Faculty of Engineering.
