Safran announces the opening of new plant in Chihuahua boosting economic development and job creation

Farnborough (United Kingdom), July 23, 2024 - Safran is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of a new plant in the municipality of Chihuahua, which will begin operations in 2025. This inauguration represents a significant step in Safran's commitment to economic development and job creation in the state. With this construction, Safran will have 12 sites in the city of Chihuahua, which currently employ around 8,000 workers, representing more than half of Safran Group's employees in the country.

The new site, dedicated to the production of aerospace equipment, is located in the Supra Industrial Park operated by Safran Aerosystems, and has required an investment of 6 million euros. This project will not only strengthen the local economy but also generate over 225 direct jobs and more than 67 indirect jobs, benefiting families in Chihuahua.

The announcement was made on the second day of the Farnborough International Airshow in the presence of Chihuahua Minister of the Economy Ulises Fernández - and as representative of the Group Sébastien Weber, CEO of Safran Aerosystems, Jorge Acosta, General Director of the Safran Aerosystems campus in Chihuahua and Alejandro Cardona, President Delegate of Safran Mexico. During the event, the importance of this new industrial facility was highlighted, as the opening of the plant is a testament to the joint effort between the public and private sectors to promote economic growth and job creation in Mexico.

Jorge Acosta commented: “The new Safran Aerosystems site is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and meets the highest standards of quality and sustainability, ensuring efficient and environmentally responsible production.” He added: “As part of our commitment to social responsibility, 1,190 solar panels will be installed, equivalent to a reduction of 585.5 tons of CO2 annually. The activities carried out at Safran Aerosystems Chihuahua Site 6 will include the production of evacuation systems (about 60%) and seat components (30%).”

Meanwhile, Alejandro Cardona, Delegate President of Safran in Mexico, reaffirmed the Group's commitment to sustainable economic development, job creation, and community support through support activities aligned with the company's social commitment pillars.
