Safran accelerates the development of modeling tools for contact mechanics applications

Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, June 20, 2019 Safran Transmission Systems, Safran Aircraft Engines and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed a partnership agreement with INSA engineering school laboratory LaMCoS and Mecalam, a software firm specializing in high-powered computing for mechanical transmission engineering.

Safran, LaMCoS and Mecalam will benefit from each other's solid expertise: LaMCoS will bring to the partnership fundamental scientific research, Safran will share its product and market expertise, and Mecalam will leverage this expertise to develop powerful, secure computation tools, ready for rapid implementation by Safran Transmission Systems design teams.

Under the agreement, Safran design teams will have direct access to powerful computation tools available at LaMCoS and Mecalam for modeling moving contact surfaces (gear teeth, bearings, splines and blade roots), thanks to a user-friendly interface tailored to the Group’s business requirements. Laurent Raoul, Chief Technology Officer, Safran Transmission Systems: "The major benefit of this framework agreement is that it enables us to very quickly shift from academic research to operational implementation by our design teams of the tools developed."

Coinciding with the renewal for five years of the Innovative Mechanical Transmissions for Aeronautics (IMTA) teaching and research chair, which was created in 2014, this framework agreement strengthens the partnership between Safran and INSA Lyon engineering school.
