India signs deal to buy 36 Rafale

Business

On September 23, 2016, Indian Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar signed a contract to acquire 36 Safran Aircraft Engines M88-powered Rafale fighters, in a ceremony attended by his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The long expected sale of Rafales to India maintains the momentum of the Rafale’s initial export sales, with both Egypt and Qatar ordering 24 aircraft in 2015. India, a long-standing customer of Dassault Aviation and Safran Aircraft Engines, becomes the largest export customer for the Rafale with this order for 36 aircraft.
