Alstom and Safran sign a technological cooperation agreement

Innovation

Le Bourget, France, 22 June 2017.

Alstom and Safran signed a technological cooperation agreement at the Paris Air Show today, the initial aim of which is to pool the two companies’ skills and expertise in electric propulsion. This collaboration in the field of R&D brings together two high-tech companies, leaders in distinct markets: mobility for Alstom, and Aeronautics, Space and Defence for Safran.

To begin with, the agreement will focus on two main themes: components and technologies for electric propulsion equipment, and electric and hybrid propulsion systems as a whole for aircraft and public transport vehicles, allowing French industry to position itself at the highest possible international level in this domain.

The joint research programme will involve research institutes and universities as well as innovative SMEs. Collaborative projects initiated under the cooperation should see the light of day by 2020.
