SSAMC——— the First MRO with LEAP-1B Test Qualification in China


July 02 2020, Sichuan Services Aero-engine Maintenance Company (hereinafter referred to as “SSAMC”) held the celebration for LEAP-1B Test Cell Upgrade in its test cell in Shuangliu, Chengdu, China.

Mr. Jean-Michel TOMAS, General Manager of SSAMC and Mr. WAN Yi, Deputy General Manager of SSAMC hosted the ceremony in the presence of Mr. Bruno Bisson, General Consul of France in Chengdu, Mr. XU Dongyi, Deputy Director General and Chief Engineer of CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) Southwest Regional Administration, Ms. Zhang, relevant principal of Shuangliu Government, Mr. ZHONG Dechao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Air China Southwest Branch and Board Director of SSAMC, Mr. LIU Xiaoming, General Manager of Ameco Chengdu Branch, and Mr. MA Jie, General Manager of Ameco Southwest Airlines Center.

——SSAMC became the First MRO with LEAP Test Qualification in China

By June 2020, SSAMC was approved by CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China), EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and U.S. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to test CFM International* LEAP-1B engines in its test cell, which made SSAMC the first MRO with LEAP-1B test capability in China.

 Sichuan Services Aero Engine Maintenance Company (SSAMC), the joint venture between Air China and CFM International (CFM), invested several million US Dollars to upgrade its test cell. With technical support provided by CFM, as well as the unremitting efforts of SSAMC teams, the company has successfully completed the LEAP-1B correlation and has received approval from airworthiness authorities — CAAC, EASA and FAA. The first LEAP-1B customer engine is tested successfully today (July 2nd, 2020) with witness of guests on site, making SSAMC the first MRO with LEAP-1B test qualification in China. This is the moment SSAMC has been working for years and the engine maintenance markets have been waiting for.

This accomplishment not only symbolizes the front-runner status of SSAMC in terms of LEAP engine maintenance capabilities in China, but also injects new vitality into Chengdu aviation maintenance industry, and starts a brand new journey in engine maintenance. It will certainly mark another significant milestone in the development process of aviation maintenance industry in Chengdu, and in China.

Ms. Zhang mentioned in her speech that: “Today, we walked across SSAMC, we saw and heard the development of SSAMC, and we felt the power and the temperature of the engine in the test bench control room. Entrusted by Secretary Rongsheng, on behalf of Shuangliu district Party committee and government, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to SSAMC for this first successful LEAP-1B customer engine test, and I sincerely wish SSAMC to be better and stronger! I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the friends who have been involving in the long term economic development of Shuangliu.”

Mr. Zhong Dechao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Air China, also as one member of Board of Directors of SSAMC, witnessed the development of SSAMC’s repair capability from CFM56 series to LEAP engines. Mr. ZHONG mentioned in his speech that: “Since 1999 and for the past 20 years, SSAMC has steadily improved its repair capability and strengthened its reliability to evolve from a regional to a world-class leader Engine MRO shop.”

Mr. Jean-Michel TOMAS, General Manager of SSAMC said: “This first LEAP-1B test in our shop marks a decisive step for SSAMC. It makes us closer to provide more comprehensive CFM engine MRO services, and it is good news for the large LEAP engine customers within China. SSAMC is leading the MRO capabilities development for LEAP in mainland China, and will enlarge our maintenance capabilities in the coming years. We are expecting to include LEAP-1A test capability by the end of this year,”

With the continuous service and introduction of LEAP engines into both domestic and overseas markets in the future, SSAMC will gradually expand its scope to provide comprehensive MRO services for LEAP operators in order to support smooth operations for their LEAP engine fleets. SSAMC is definitely a pioneer for the development of LEAP MRO and will stand as the major reliable MRO shop for LEAP engines in China.
