SaM146 engines in the world’s coldest city!

In March 2016 we filmed the SaM146 in service in the world’s coldest city, Yakutsk in eastern Siberia (Russian Federation), where engines have to operate under extreme environmental conditions.

We traveled to this city in eastern Siberia, where local carrier Yakutia operates two Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional jets, powered by SaM146 engines from PowerJet. In the middle of the winter, temperatures here can fall to -60°C, which means that airlines have to deploy extremely rugged machines and equipment. And that’s the case of the SaM146 engine, which has proven its exceptional reliability in cold climates since starting revenue service with Yakutia in 2013.

This performance provides a real advantage for the airline’s pilots. The video you can see below features their feedback on flying these airplanes, along with spectacular shots of the local scenery.
