Safran attended the third annual More Electric Aircraft USA conference, held August 21-23 in Seattle. More Electric Aircraft USA is an annual gathering of OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), suppliers, and academia focused on advances in the field of more electric aircraft.

As a global leader in aeronautical power and electrical systems, Safran was represented by two companies – Safran Landing Systems and Zodiac Aerospace – at this key event. More Electric Aircraft USA served as a platform to underscore the Group's commitment to developing innovative solutions to meet the requirements of more electric aircraft.

Philippe Chico, Safran Landing Systems’ Engineering Representative in Seattle, presented the company’s major projects in the field of electric landing gear systems, to include the Electric Taxiing system and electrically-actuated nose wheel steering. He also addressed the challenges of electrically-operated landing gear extension and retraction systems.

Attendees also learned about power solutions from Laurent Debuire, Boeing Product Development Director at Zodiac Aerospace. Debuire’s presentation covered the current challenges of developing solutions to meet the power requirements for single aisle-aircraft. Technologies presented by Laurent Debuire included high voltage power contactors and battery and fuel cells that are being designed to support future all-electric and hybrid airplanes.

More Electric Aircraft USA also was an opportunity to learn about future trends for large commercial aircraft as well as emerging urban air transport from major players including A3 by Airbus, Zunum Aero, Bell, Wright Electric, MagniX, and Synergy.
