Safran attended the seventh annual EnergyTech Forum & Conference, held October 31 to November 2 in Cleveland, Ohio.

EnergyTech is an annual gathering of highly competent engineers and professionals in the field of systems, energy, aerospace, critical infrastructure, security, policy and governance. The conference traditionally focuses on relevant technology advancements in the energy sector as well as critical infrastructure.

As a global leader in aeronautical power and electrical systems, Safran was a sponsor for this key event – held at the Cleveland I-X Center. During the three-day meeting, Safran exhibited a range of aircraft electrical system equipment, including generators, control units, and a ram air turbine.

EnergyTech also served as a platform for discussions underscoring the Group’s commitment to developing innovative solutions to meet the requirements of more electric aircraft.

Eric Kline, Engineering Manager at Safran Electrical & Power in Twinsburg, Ohio, gave a presentation on the history of aircraft electrical systems. His presentation provided an overview of electrical power on aircraft – starting with batteries first used for radios in 1913.

Kline explained how increasing demands for electrical power and advances in technology have driven the evolution of power generation and distribution systems for commercial and military aircraft over time. The final portion of his EnergyTech presentation focused on the trend toward more-electric aircraft and the technological roadmaps that are enabling hybrid and fully-electric propulsion systems for aircraft.

EnergyTech receives support from a number of organizations in addition to Safran, including NASA, InfraGard/FBI, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), along with various corporate entities and universities.
