Safran shareholders visit Molsheim plant in eastern France

On Tuesday, June 27, 2017, about 15 Safran shareholders visited the Safran Landing Systems plant in Molsheim, in the Alsace region of eastern France.

Safran Landing Systems is a world leader in the design, development, production and support of landing gear, used on a large number of both commercial and military aircraft (Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX, Rafale, etc.). The company has about 20 major facilities in Europe, the Americas and Asia, totaling 7,000 employees.

Shareholders first enjoyed a detailed presentation of the Molsheim site covering its history and operations. Accompanied by unit managers, they visited the plant, encompassing all three divisions: Wheels & Brakes, MRO, Systems & Equipment.

The guided visit started with a closer look at the Wheels & Brakes unit, including the history of carbon brakes for airplanes (Safran is now the world’s leading supplier of carbon brakes for mainline commercial jets, with over 100 seats).  The visitors then headed for the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) unit, which services landing gear for both civil and military aircraft. To cap the visit, the Systems & Equipment unit opened its doors so visitors could discover its complete range, including equipment for steering, landing gear extension/retraction, braking and monitoring systems, along with the manufacture of pumps and hydraulic assemblies.  

The next scheduled visit for members of the Safran Shareholders Club will be the Safran Aircraft Engines plant in Gennevilliers, near Paris, on September 14.
