Safran makes headlines at NBAA-BACE 2018
October 23, 2018
Safran showcased its nose-to-tail offering for business jets at last week’s National Business Aviation Association Annual Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Orlando, Florida. In addition to spotlighting an extensive selection of products, the Group also made several key announcements at the business aviation community's premier event.
The company made headlines during the show following the announcement by Textron Aviation and NetJets® of an agreement for the option to purchase up to 150 Cessna Citation Hemisphere® business jets powered by Safran’s Silvercrest engine.
Another key highlight of NBAA 2018 was the unveiling by Safran Electrical & Power of an electric motor from its ENGINeUS range, designed for future hybrid and electric aircraft. The motor, which was featured at NBAA-BACE as part of the Group’s electrical power management display, has been tested and validated on Safran's electrical integration benches to verify its performance.
In addition, Safran announced the launch of Safran PowerCare® – a maintenance service dedicated to business jet auxiliary power units.
Safran demonstrated its commitment to supporting development of more electric aircraft by spotlighting the SPU300[BA] auxiliary power unit.
A wide range of avionics and navigation systems, including Cassiopée flight data management services and the SkyNaute Attitude and Heading Reference System, was spotlighted at the Safran booth. In addition, visitors at the static display of aircraft were given the opportunity to see Safran’s fully simulated landing gear control handle as part of Gulfstream's G500/600 Virtual Flight Deck.
Visitors also were given a close-up look at landing gear designed for Bombardier's Global 5000/6000 business jets. Safran provides landing gear solutions for the entire Bombardier Global aircraft family.
Zodiac Aerospace's NBAA-BACE debut with Safran
For the first time at NBAA-BACE, visitors who walked through the Safran booth experienced aircraft interior solutions by Zodiac Aerospace.
Displayed this year was the Atmosphere Line, which offers the latest and newest technology in aircraft galleys for cooking and microwave ovens, as well as hot beverage preparation.
Zodiac Cabin Controls’ EdgeLIT Mirror, which integrates the mirror lighting, the traditional PSU signage, the attendant call button, and a display in one unit, was also featured at Safran the booth.
Zodiac Oxygen Systems also highlighted its capabilities with the MD40 EROS® R Crew Mask, the AV8RO2™ Mask, and the Smartmike™ Microphone.
Other products displayed this year include the Integrated Faucet, a countertop, and the Revolution™ Toilet.
As part of an effort to promote careers in aviation, NBAA encourages exhibitors and visitors to bring students to NBAA-BACE.
Safran Electrical & Power in Sarasota, Florida, brought Liam O’Connor, an intern who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida. “I had a great time at NBAA! NBAA was a fantastic opportunity to network and understand the inner workings of the aerospace industry. I think it was a great experience to see how my slice of Safran fit into the company as a whole and how that impacted other companies at the event.”
