Safran HR takes part in Apprenticeship Day

Human resources

November 20th was French National Apprenticeship Day, organized by the Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN). As one of France’s partners in GAN and a keen advocate of work-integrated learning, Safran was actively involved in the event. Here's a closer look at how we contributed.

GAN is a global alliance of private sector companies and international organizations that work together to encourage the development of work-based learning, with the support of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the OECD. Strongly committed to providing learning opportunities for young people in all job categories, Safran became a member of the French branch of the GAN network as soon as it was set up, in 2017.

For this year's National Apprenticeship Day, the Group attended the two main events staged by GAN, at IGS Paris business school and the Veolia Campus in Lyon. Our HR teams were on hand to welcome visitors and answer questions on all aspects of apprenticeships and careers available with the Group. It was an excellent opportunity for Safran to spotlight its commitment to youth employment through its apprenticeship program. "In France, Safran hosts an average of 3,000 apprentices and interns a year. We cater for all levels of learning, from vocational high-school certificates to master's degrees, and in all our businesses," said Gilles Garczynski, Vice President, Talent Safran, during a roundtable discussion held at the IGS Campus in Paris.

The outcomes for students are extremely positive, illustrated by the experience of François Quere, currently an apprentice at Safran Tech, who took part in the same roundtable discussion. Following a vocational high-school certificate and a placement at Safran, François did a BTS vocational diploma and then embarked on a degree apprenticeship. "The opportunity to combine real-world experience with classroom study made perfect sense to me. The apprenticeship has helped me become more self-reliant, which is a big plus for my studies. I'm learning my job both in the classroom, where we're taught in small groups, and alongside colleagues who are experts in the field," he added.

The special one-day event also gave us the chance to focus on the rewarding relationship between apprentices and their tutors. Several Group sites hosted breakfasts for students and tutors to get together  informally – creating some great photo opportunities. Perfect for sharing on social networks!
