Safran Hosts Congresswoman in New Hampshire

Business

November 3, 2017

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) visited the Safran Aerospace Composites plant in Rochester, New Hampshire, on October 31.

Inaugurated in 2014, the Safran Aerospace Composites plant brings together the manufacturing expertise of Safran and Albany International Corp. in a state-of-the-art industrial facility. The 300,000-square-foot facility is dedicated to the production of 3D woven composite parts for aircraft engines and currently employs 220 people.

Upon arrival at the facility, Congresswoman Shea-Porter was welcomed by Pat Haywood, Vice President and General Manager of Safran Aerospace Composites; and Read Van de Water, Senior Vice President, External Affairs at Safran USA.

During a briefing, the Congresswoman learned about the Group’s U.S. presence, and the activities of Safran Aerospace Composites in Rochester. The visit was an opportunity to underscore Safran’s continuing focus on developing local talent and creating new jobs in the U.S., as illustrated by the company’s recruitment and community outreach initiatives.

A first-hand look at advanced production technology

The briefing was followed by a tour providing a close-up look at the production of 3D-woven RTM (resin transfer molding) composite parts that are used in fan cases and fan blades for new-generation LEAP jet engines. These parts are particularly strong and lightweight, contributing to the lower fuel consumption of LEAP engines, which are produced by CFM International – a 50/50 joint venture between the Safran Aircraft Engines business and GE Aviation.

Safran Aerospace Composites is one of the two Safran operations in New Hampshire. The other is Optics 1, a global leader in state-of-the-art optronic equipment, systems and sensors supporting the activities of the United States military and homeland security communities.

As the Group continues to expand in the United States, visits such Congresswoman Shea-Porter’s tour of Safran Aerospace Composites are part of a larger effort to promote Safran as a trusted partner committed to growing jobs and economic vitality across the country. Safran companies across the United States welcome opportunities to host elected officials at their facilities to showcase our key talents, technologies and products.
