Racing to the finish for a good cause

For the 15th year, Safran companies participated in a charitable event sponsored by North America’s largest regional passenger carrier, whose jetliner fleet is outfitted with equipment and systems from five Safran businesses.

For the SkyWest Airlines-sponsored “Mini Indy” go-kart race – held last month in Saint George, Utah – the Safran team advanced to the finals, thanks to the dedicated efforts of drivers and pit crew.

The Mini Indy event brings together teams from international and local businesses, community leaders and various civic groups to race go karts (styled as miniature Indianapolis 500-style cars) through a twisting course. Money that is raised helps support United Way Dixie, which assists hundreds of local people by funding non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organizations.

SkyWest Airlines is the world’s largest operator of Bombardier CRJ 200 twin-engine regional jetliners, which are outfitted with equipment and systems from Safran Electrical & Power (wiring), Safran Electronics & Defense (flight control actuators, horizontal stabilizer computer unit, and nosewheel steering system), Safran Landing Systems (landing gear), and Technofan (fans, valves and check valves).

Also in SkyWest Airlines’ fleet are Embraer E175 regional airliners, with the two jet powerplants on these aircraft protected by engine nacelles from Safran Nacelles.
