Patent filings in France: Safran in top three for the 6th year in a row!

On Monday, March 27, France’s National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI) published its annual ranking of the leading French companies in terms of patents filed, both in France and internationally. Safran was third in the national ranking, with 758 patent requests filed in 2016.

In 2016, for the sixth year in row, Safran finished in the Top 3 of French companies having filed for the most patents in France.

Safran is ranked after auto parts giant Valeo (994 patent requests) and car-maker PSA (930), and ahead of the country’s two leading research organizations, CEA (atomic and alternative energies commission) and CNRS (national scientific research center), ranked fourth and sixth, respectively. It is also one of the three leading French aerospace companies in the Top 10, along with Airbus Group (364 patents, 7th) and Thales (309 patents, 9th). Concerning international patent filings by French companies, Safran is ranked 5th, with 861 patent filings published in 2015. The leaders in this category are PSA (1,133), Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent (1,108), Airbus Group (960) and Valeo (871).

In January, the Group was also named, for the sixth year in a row, one of the world’s 100 most innovative companies, according to Clarivate Analytics, which analyzes companies’ patent policies.Safran’s continued leadership in these patent rankings reflects both its ability to innovate  and its employees’ constant focus on protecting innovation.
