New Safran capabilities come to South Carolina for Boeing’s 787 jetliner final assembly line

Safran is bringing its leadership in aircraft wiring and landing gear solutions to the Charleston, South Carolina area, further strengthening the company’s presence for Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner final assembly line and expanding Safran’s aerospace hub in the southeastern United States.

This enlarged site at Ladson will support the assembly of wiring and landing gear activities on the 787 jetliner, joining Safran Electrical & Power – which has been operating at Charleston since 2008 in wire harness inventory management, delivery and repair services provided to Boeing.

In its broadened role, Safran Electrical & Power Charleston will continue the business unit’s on-going activities, while also performing final assembly work on 787 landing gear to integrate wheel and brake system components on behalf of sister company, Safran Landing Systems.

Today’s inauguration ceremony for the expanded Charleston operation was attended by Safran and Boeing executives, along with public officials and members of the Charleston aerospace cluster.

“We are happy to once again congratulate Safran on its growth and look forward to seeing the company’s advancing role in North Charleston’s dynamic economy,” explained City of North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, who participated in the inauguration event.

The capital investment at this location builds on Safran’s overall U.S. investment of $3 billion spent through new facilities, acquisitions, partnerships and organic growth.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley congratulated Safran on its success as a member of the state’s aerospace industry, adding: “This new $7 million investment and the 15 new jobs they are creating is a big win and will have a real impact on the people of this state.”
