New Hampshire Governor’s 2019 inaugural address highlights education partnership involving Safran

Safran Aerospace Composites is part of a progressive education project that was highlighted by New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu during his 2019 inaugural address this month.

The Governor announced the creation of “New Hampshire Career Academies,” which will provide threefold benefits for students: a high school diploma, a free community college certificate, and a guaranteed interview with a local employer. For employers, the benefit is access to a highly-specialized workforce.

Safran Aerospace Composites Rochester is part of a group – including a local high school, the Great Bay Community College, and the Governor’s office – that worked together in creating a career pathway in advanced composites manufacturing. 

“A way forward for the future”

“The first pilot project was a huge success,” said Sean Hoeing, Human Resources Manager at Safran Aerospace Composites. “With Governor Chris Sununu’s full support, including this announcement during his inaugural address, Safran Aerospace Composites has secured a way forward for the future, along with the evolution of a well-trained workforce.”

Once students have completed their high school diploma and advanced composites manufacturing training in June, they will have guaranteed interviews with Safran Aerospace Composites.

Safran's Rochester operation produces 3D woven composite parts using RTM (resin transfer molding) technology in the manufacture of blades and fan cases. These components are used in CFM International LEAP jet engines, which power the latest generation of single-aisle commercial jetliners. Nearly 340 people currently are employed by Safran at Rochester.

In addition to participating in the New Hampshire Career Academies project, Safran Aerospace Composites partners with local high schools, providing tours for both students and educators to learn about careers in advanced manufacturing and aerospace.
