July 26, 2016

The latest nacelle system from Safran Nacelles is now ready for airline service following this month’s delivery of the first Airbus A320neo (new engine option) jetliner powered by LEAP-1A turbofan engines.

Safran Nacelles has overall responsibility for the nacelle design, production and its integration with CFM International LEAP-1A high-bypass turbofan jet engines, followed by deliveries of complete propulsion systems to Airbus.

The first-delivered A320neo jetliner equipped with the LEAP-1A was received by Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, which placed an order for up to 100 A320neo Family aircraft in 2012. Its handover occurred at Airbus’ final assembly line facility in Hamburg, Germany.

Nacelle system components for the A320neo family of jetliners are produced at Safran Nacelle’s various industrial facilities. The company began integrating the nacelles with LEAP-1A propulsion systems at its Colomiers, France podding facility, which is located near Airbus’ A320 aircraft family production lines at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport.

A new podding site is in the vicinity of the Airbus A320 final assembly lines in Hamburg, supporting Safran Nacelles’ key supplier role for the A320neo Family – which is undergoing one of the fastest production ramp-ups in civil aviation history.

Additionally, Safran Nacelles is defining the arrangements for an on-site physical presence in the United States at Mobile, Alabama on America's Gulf Coast, home to the newest final assembly factory for the A320 jetliner product line.
