Launch of the large-scale Covid-19 screening campaign on Safran Nacelles Le Havre site, in the presence of French Health and Solidarity Minister and former French Prime Minister.

Business

Ross McInnes, Chairman of the Safran Board, and Vincent Caro, Safran Nacelles CEO, have launched the Covid-19 screening campaign on the Safran Nacelles Le Havre site, in the presence of Olivier Véran, French Health and Solidarity Minister, and Edouard Philippe, former French Prime Minister and Mayor of Le Havre. Several regional institutional representatives were also present on site.

Le Havre, “Test” city

Le Havre is one of the test areas identified in France, along with Charleville-Mézières (North-East France), to pilot the large-scale testing for Covid-19. A few organisations from the industrial port area, supported by the Regional Health Agency, are now participating in the testing of their employees ahead of the Christmas break. It is in this context that Safran Nacelles implemented the testing of their employees using RT-PCR/nasopharyngeal swabs, on a voluntary basis, from the 14th to the 17th December, on its Le Havre site.

Objective of the operation

Our aim is to screen the maximum number of employees, in particular “asymptomatic” people, before the social interactions that will undoubtedly increase during the festive season. To date, almost 300 employees have contacted the Occupational Health Department and made an appointment to take the test.

Bénédicte Jean, site Occupational Health Physician, explains: “It is very practical, since the procedure is carried out on site, fully applying the protective health measures. The results are delivered the following day, and in the case of positive test result we provide support for the employees with regards to their self-isolation procedure and the identification of people they have been in contact with.

Vincent Caro, CEO of Safran Nacelles commented: “Through this test campaign, we wanted to participate in the collective effort to reduce the spread of the virus and continue to drive the campaign of prevention and employee support implemented by the Group since the start of the pandemic. It is all the more crucial since we have been hit with full force by the brutal air traffic drop and we are working towards a rapid recovery of our industrial sector. This launch is a positive start, and I thank all our teams that have responded so quickly.

A civic duty

Being tested before the festive season starts in full swing represents, for many of the participants, a “civic duty” as they are being proactive in the face of the pandemic and accept the possibility that they may have to isolate before the festive celebrations to avoid the risk of contaminating their family, and particularly their elderly relatives.
