Girls on the move at Safran Landing Systems!

CSR

International Women’s Day was yesterday but we are committed each and every day. Look back on action taken alongside the French association Elles Bougent (Girls on the Move) of which Safran is a partner.

The association organizes talks on professions, visits to companies and industrial sites, round tables and other events throughout the year. The young women experience a total immersion when spending a day at the heart of a company shadowing professional women who take on the role of their female mentors. For the female mentors, this is an opportunity to talk about their background, their studies, their work, etc.

At Safran Landing Systems, these female mentors (a dozen on the Vélizy site) regularly meet middle and high school students interning at the Vélizy site, during sessions aimed at showcasing the diversity of professions in the aerospace industry. Following a presentation of the company’s activities, they present their career as an engineer or technician and share their passion to these young girls seeking career information. The Bidos site is also mobilized to promote its professions: last November, 6 female mentors visited some local high schools to interact with pupils and raise their interest in careers in science and technology.

Deconstructing stereotypes and preconceptions

And the initiative is bearing fruit! Every year, many of the young girls who have had the opportunity to discover engineering or technical professions thanks to "Elles Bougent" consider this experience to have been decisive in their career choices: for 75% of them, it reinforced their choice, and for 25% of them it even changed their opinion of their orientation thanks to the discovery of engineering and technical professions.

Today, 550 middle and high schools are partners of Elles Bougent throughout France, as well as approximately 60 companies and 50 other partners in higher education (Universities, Engineering Schools).
