First nacelle ground test unit delivered for the A330neo

Business

The first Ground Test Unit GTU#1 of the Airbus A330neo nacelle programme has been delivered this week. This is an important milestone for the programme.

September 23, 2016

The first unit was shipped to Rolls Royce at Stennis, Mississippi, USA, where they will conduct what is known as a certification and endurance test of the nacelle. This test ensures the conformity of the nacelle in a specified cycle of the Roll Royce Trent 7000 engine. All Safran Nacelles teams have equipped the nacelle with the instrumentation to conduct these tests.

The A330neo Trent 7000 nacelle

With the A330neo nacelle, the company reinforces its position in the long-haul aircraft range. Safran Nacelles has complete responsibility for the nacelles of the A330neo, from design to integration on the Rolls-Royce’s Trent 7000 engines.

With its diameter of 3.65 meters, this nacelle is in the same very large nacelle category as that of the A380. It incorporates the best technologies developed by Safran Nacelles and has been developed in an unprecedented programme development lead time: only 42 months, which is 18 months less than a standard schedule. Its industrial scheme is based on the main production sites of Safran Nacelles: Burnley, Le Havre, Casablanca, Toulouse and Florange.
