Blagnac site reduces Carbon Footprint with photovoltaic parking lot shades
Safran Ventilation Systems, in partnership with Idex, inaugurated their photovoltaic parking lot shades at the Blagnac site in France on 14 June.
Safran announced in February 2023, it would install solar panels at 17 sites in France, mainly on parking lot structures. Thanks to the 2,500 m² of panels installed in Blagnac, the site will mark down its carbon footprint by 15% toward the group's 30% target by 2025 and secure 25% self-consumption of the site’s electrical needs. The surplus electricity produced outside our operational hours will be injected back into the network.
Real-time energy consumption is shown on TV screens at the entrance of the Blagnac sites to demonstrate the carbon footprint reduction to employees and visitors.
During the inauguration, Sebastien Jaulerry expressed its gratitude to the project team with members from Safran and Idex.
It is essential for Safran Ventilation Systems to reduce its carbon footprint in anticipation of an increase in our electrical consumption due to the development of our future products. Next-generation aircraft will be much more electrical, and our improvement in the performance power of our motors and electric compressors leads to even higher electrical needs, especially during the testing phases, all of which are handled in-house.
About the Blagnac site
The Blagnac site, is one of the two locations from Safran Cabin’s Air Management Division. The 350 employees develop, manufacture and maintain equipment for almost 30,000 aircraft across the globe. The product portfolio spans air conditioning systems, electrical and mechanical fans, valves, and most recently, electric compressors and electric motors as a part of the aircraft electrification and decarbonization process.
