Aerospace education “takes flight” in Mobile, Alabama with Safran’s support
August 4, 2020
Safran is helping advance aerospace education in the state of Alabama through its sponsorship of Flight Works Alabama – the new aviation experience center at Mobile, which is home to Airbus’ U.S. jetliner final assembly facility.
In addition to providing financial support for Flight Works Alabama, the Group is donating aircraft equipment produced by several of its business units, which will be displayed at this instructional facility.
Supporting aerospace research and development
“Safran’s relationship with Flight Works Alabama enables us to partner in serving the local community and educating its youth on the opportunities in our industry,” said Peter Lengyel, the President and CEO of Safran USA. “We are very excited to see Safran technologies showcased in this new, innovative center, which is aligned with our role as a major investor in aerospace research and development – as well as an active corporate citizen in the U.S.”
Wide-ranging contributions
The equipment donated by Safran to the aviation experience center includes a company-produced 1,300-lb. nose landing gear for Airbus’ widebody A340 jetliner – one of the Airbus passenger aircraft equipped with Safran’s landing gear systems.
Safran’s donation of an electrical wiring board to Flight Works Alabama underscores the company’s key involvement in the very “heart” of today’s aircraft, and highlights Safran Electrical & Power’s role as a world leader in aircraft electrical systems – including its supply of electrical wiring for the A320 jetliner family. 60% of the wiring on the Airbus A320 family of aircraft is provided by Safran.
