Safran expands business activities in Central America and Carribean with new location in Costa Rica
Safran Identity & Security, the global leader in identity and security, has announced it is expanding its business activities in Central America. The company has acquired the former office location of the Colombian-based Carvajal Group in Costa Rica.
For Safran Identity & Security, this new location marks another important strategic development for its business activities in Central America and Carribean, as the company becomes the first EMV card manufacturer which has a domestic presence in Costa Rica. Safran Identity & Security will serve the growing demand of the payment industry and financial institutions in the region for innovative, high-security and EMV-based digital payment and biometric solutions.
Our new location in Costa Rica decisively reinforces our strong position in the Central American payment market. Staying close to our Central American payment customers and offering them tailored payment products and services based on a long-term, locally based relationship is extremely important for us. In this way we ensure that we can support our customers with state-of-the-art digital ID and authentication solutions to meet the demands of transparent payment technologies of the future.
Safran Identity & Security has operated in Latin America since 1999, showing a strong regional presence through factories and bank cards personalization centers in Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Mexico as well as sales offices in Argentina, and providing leading market solutions for biometrics, digital identity and secure transactions. These operations are managed by its Brazilian subsidiary, allowing the company to offer a complete solution portfolio and full service covering microelectronics, milling, embedding, personalization and fulfillment for the telecom, payment, health and ID markets. The local state-of-the-art production and chip assembly allows Safran Identity & Security to supply biometric identification and authentication solutions and e-ID platforms and gives it a capacity to produce more than 100 million cards per year. Local Identity & Security R&D centers will also be able to develop innovative tailor-made solutions based on the identification of local needs.
