Sagem, Valeo and ULIS selected for AWARE project (All Weather All Roads Enhanced vision)

Eurosatory, Paris-Nord Villepinte, June 19, 2014. .

Sagem (Safran), Valeo and Ulis, a subsidiary of Sofradir, were selected as part of the 17th call for projects to be financed by the French competitiveness, industry and services directorate (DGCIS). Supported by the Mov'eo, ViaMéca and Astech competitiveness clusters, the AWARE (All Weather All Roads Enhanced vision) project also includes the CEA, Oktal, Oktal SE, Nexyad, Ifsttar, Cerema and IAC.

Joint R&D work by Sagem and Valeo for this project will exploit technologies designed for dual (civil/military) applications. The project aims to develop a low-cost, all-weather camera that will allow the safe automated driving of automobiles, combat vehicles, robots and drones. These sensors not only ensure safe driving, at night and in bad weather, but will also enhance the autonomy of tomorrow's civil and military vehicles.

This latest contract falls within the scope of the partnership signed by Valeo and Safran in July 2013 to develop innovative and competitive solutions that meet new requirements in the defense, security and automotive sectors.

One of the main challenges in the military sector is to ensure the mobility, under all conditions, of both manned and autonomous platforms, along with a vision of the platform's immediate surroundings to grasp the tactical situation and help protect the vehicle and its crew. The basic technology developed through this project will also be applicable to airborne platforms such as drones ("see & avoid" sensors), helicopters (for enhanced flight safety), and even civil aviation.

Sagem, as the European leader in optronics (electro-optical) systems, draws on its proven expertise and differentiating technologies to bolster its position in these areas. The company's solid technological base enables it to offer cost-competitive components, subassemblies and systems for land, sea and air applications, such as FELIN, Scorpion, the Tiger and Caracal helicopters, and the new medium-range, land-based missile MMP.

At Eurosatory (June 16 – 20, 2014), Sagem is in Hall 6, Stand F80 and ULIS is in Hall 6 - Stand F139.
