Safran signs first European agreement to support the professional integration of young people

Paris, April 3, 2013

Safran and the European union IndustriAll* signed an agreement for the professional integration of young people on March 28, 2013. The first agreement of this type in Europe for Safran, and the first in France, it is designed to expand apprenticeships and internships, and support the hiring, mentoring and training of young Europeans in Safran companies.

The three-year agreement will support Safran's international development, as well as the renewal of its workforce. Safran currently has nearly 45,000 employees in Europe, and is applying an ambitious recruitment plan in 2013, with the aim of hiring 7,000 new employees, including 4,500 in Europe, half of them young people.

According to the terms of the agreement, Safran pledges to recruit young graduates and emphasize in-service training for young people. In particular the agreement provides for more apprenticeship and internship positions within the Group, while increasing the number of student researchers. It also provides for expanded relations and partnerships with European schools and universities.

"At Safran, we are fully aware of our social responsibilities, especially with youth unemployment on the rise," said Jean-Luc Bérard, Safran Vice President for Human Resources. "It was therefore vital for us to extend the construction of the Safran social model across Europe. Through this agreement, Safran once again demonstrates our advance in terms of supporting and employing young people. We currently welcome nearly 5,000 interns and young people in work-study programs every year, and our mentoring and knowledge transfer programs have earned broad recognition."

The agreement will be applied through action plans in each country. Safran will also set up quantitative and qualitative indicators, and a monitoring board will oversee the application of this agreement.

* On May 16 2012, the European Metalworkers Federation, the European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation, and the European Trade Union Federation: Textiles, Clothing, Leather (ETUF TCL) formally merged to become the IndustriALL European Trade Union. This new organization represents some 7 million workers in Europe.
