Philippe Schleicher named coordinator of the planned merger of the solid propulsion businesses at Safran and SNPE

On October 1, Safran announced a draft agreement for the acquisition of SNPE Matériaux Energétiques and its subsidiaries. This framework industrial and commercial collaboration agreement seeks to bolster the solid rocket motor industry, a key to the success of Europe's launch vehicles and missiles.
Philippe Schleicher has been named to coordinate this project, on behalf of Safran, effective November 1. At the same time, he retains his current position as Chief Executive Officer of Techspace Aero (Safran group).
Philippe Schleicher, 56, holds degrees from the HEC business school, Sciences Politiques in Paris and Université Panthéon-Sorbonne. He started his career in 1980 as aircraft braking business manager with Messier-Bugatti, then being named general manager in 1987. In 1994 he was appointed President of Nobelsport (Groupe SNPE), a manufacturer of ammunition components for hunting and shooting. From 2000 to 2004, with the support of various investment funds, he acquired companies specialized in the design and installation of automated production lines for the agrifoods business. Philippe Schleicher joined Safran in 2004 as CEO of its Belgian subsidiary, Techspace Aero, specialized in systems, equipment and test cells for aircraft and rocket engines.
