Responsible for the completion of engineering projects within the definitions of the airframe manufacturer and airline specifications and within engineering budget and schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):
A) Develop new seat products and seat components in line with the Safran Develop Process On Time and On Quality
B) Apply problem solving methodologies to advanced and complex technical problems using Lean problem solving tools
C) To manage the product maturity and development in the PLM System following the appropriate local and global Safran Group & Safran Seats USA Standards
D) To lead the design effort for packages of work or & programs, and to develop and manage packages of work within the team and supporting groups (eg; engineering services)
E) To lead a small to medium size team of engineers
F) To maintain the engineering quality and integrity of the work produced within their work package
G) Responsible for the design and detail modelling of a variety of suite components in order to meet the program requirements
H) Responsible to develop products that conform to program performance requirements such as weight and cost which shall be monitored, managed and met
I) Communicate effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers and to manage data transfers
J) Organize and participate in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process. Ensure that all necessary follow up actions are taken.
K) Selection and application of materials and processes appropriate to each design element and to provide assistance to other team members
L) Ensure the successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole
M) Follow and contribute to the development and improvement of the Best Practice guidelines as laid out in the Safran Seats USA Standards
N) Act as a role model to mentor other team members and support onboarding of new hires
O) To check engineering packages for programs they are involved with and occasionally support the review of other Seats products as directed
P) Generate and/or revise specifications
Q) Responsible for the completion and release of engineering documents: CAD Models or MBD, parts list and engineering drawing.
R) Coordinate the engineering of a project with the airframe manufacturer and the customers (internal and external).
S) Attend first article inspections and monitor the completion of the required resolutions as required.
T) Liaise with stress, materials and processing, purchasing, manufacturing, prototype shop during all stages of development.
U) Liaise with quality assurance and manufacturing departments to disposition of non-conforming articles.
V) Provides and maintains engineering schedules.
W) Provide engineering support to all departments.
X) Performs other duties as assigned.
3) Qualification Requirements:
A) Knowledge and Skills:
i) Must have extensive technological knowledge of all phases of engineering applicable to the seat products.
ii) Must have excellent drafting skills in CATIA V5 (or higher) and/or Pro/Engineer.
iii) Must be cognizant of the current standards of the aircraft industry and warrant specifications including FAA and CAA/JAA rules applicable to the product.
iv) Requires aircraft interior product structural experience in sheet metal, machining, and composite design.
v) Must have manufacturing interface experience with the total company capabilities in processes and controls.
vi) Must be able to function as part of a design team.
vii) Must possess good planning and prioritizing skills.
B) Education and Experience:
i) Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree (minimum of 12 years equivalent related engineering experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree) plus an additional 9 years of related design experience required.
ii) Must have a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree plus 7 years of related design experience required.

D) Communication Skills:
Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment. Ability to read and review written communication. Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.
E) Reasoning Ability:

4) Physical Demands:
This position requires extended periods of sitting while working with computers and viewing computer monitors and other office equipment. Finger dexterity needed in using misc. office equipment such as telephone, computer and copy machine, etc. Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to approximately twenty pounds are required during tasks related to the job.
