Summary


This is an exciting opportunity for a CO-OP student to be part of the engineering team and will play an important role in the design, analysis, and testing of aerospace generators and RATs. Interns will typically have at least one significant project that they are expected to lead each term, but may also be given some smaller tasks in parallel that give them broader exposure to engineering activities.

The CO-OP position will be available for the Spring 2020 Semester: January – May or January – August .

This can be a Part-time or Full-time role.

The goal would be for the CO-OP to return over several semesters.
With an end goal to develop Safran's talent pipeline for full-time hiring.

Job requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • • Must be pursuing a technical degree in mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering at an accredited university.


Experience and Qualifications:

  • • Related work experience in an industrial or academic setting is a plus
  • • Experience with 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, MATLAB is a plus. SolidWorks, NX, Ansys, CFX, Fluent

  • • Passion for mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering, manufacturing, and technology.
  • • Capability and tenacity for solving unique engineering problems.
  • • Ability to learn quickly and a desire to keep improving skills and to teach others when possible.

Typical office environment requiring the use of typical office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.) Computer keyboarding, computer monitor and mouse use including reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer monitor use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • • Work with Lead RAT Engineer to develop mechanical governor for regulating turbine speed.
  • • Work with Lead Generator Engineer to develop component and assembly designs for generators.
  • • Work with Aerodynamics Engineer to develop optimized turbine blade designs.
  • • Help develop test plans, fixtures, and methods, including work with wind tunnels, vibration rigs, and altitude/climate chambers.
  • • Work with suppliers and vendors to identify solutions for test rigs and production parts.
  • • Generate high-fidelity, robust 3D CAD models.
  • • Build and run computer simulations (CFD, FEA, and system modeling tools such as MATLAB).
  • • Learn to work within AS9100 aerospace quality system for engineering and manufacturing.
  • • Other tasks & responsibilities may be added as the intern's capabilities grow throughout each semester.
  • • Adheres to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture;
  • • Other duties may be assigned.
  • • Evening/night hours may be required.
  • • Extra hours may be required during business peaks.
  • • Weekend hours may be required.
