Job description

Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a CO-OP student to be part of the engineering team designing safety-critical electrical generation systems for airplanes and helicopters. The ideal candidate will enjoy taking on difficult technical problems involving both hardware and software under guidance from senior engineers.


The CO-OP position will be available for the Spring 2020 Semester: January – May or January – August .

This can be a Part-time or Full-time role.
The goal would be for the CO-OP to return over several semesters.
With an end goal to develop Safran's talent pipeline for full-time hiring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • • Develop embedded software, software that is running directly on flight hardware
  • • Debug systems that consist of both software and hardware.
  • • Develop formal software requirements, learning the best practices in systems engineering
  • • Design automated test procedures
  • • Apply continuous improvement principles to increase efficiency and product innovation
  • • Adheres to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture
  • • Travel requirements: No regular travel required
  • • Other duties may be assigned.

Job requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • • Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent at an accredited university
  • • A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA


Knowledge/Skills

  • • Passion for systems that are composed of hardware and software
  • • A desire to work in the aerospace industry
  • • Coursework or experience in software design, circuit design, digital design, and electronics
  • • A desire to develop into an engineering leader
  • • Coursework or experience developing in Python, Java, C/C plus plus, or similar language
  • • Academic or professional experience using electrical equipment such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes
  • • Desire to develop safety-critical software for aircraft hardware
  • • Strong communication skills
  • • Team player with a highly pro-active and positive attitude with ability to work on own or in a team as needed

Preferred Skills :

  • • Past co-op/intern experience
  • • Experience developing software for microcontroller
  • • Participation in extracurricular activities
  • • Experience developing software in C or C plus plus
  • • Participation in extracurricular activities on campus
