Job description

The role is responsible for defining processes and managing their implementation to achieve consistent, robust project planning for all Engineering activities across the Pitstone site.

The person who has this role will supervise a team of Technical Project Managers (4-10 heads) which will be responsible for planning and managing the Engineering activities, representing Engineering in front of Customers (internal / Program Management, as well as external), and delivering the activities on time and to budget with the help of the Engineering organisation.


  • • Planning and delivery of all Engineering activities.
  • • Shared responsibility for delivery of aggregate budget lines under management by TPM team, which constitutes £15M+ of Engineering spend throughout the year. Accountable for defining project logic and delivering on time.

Principal accountabilities:

  • • All Engineering activities (project or through-life support) have robust plans and effective risk management processes
  • • Engineering activities are completed on time and to budget
  • • Operate and continuously improve the processes for planning, reporting, and project follow-up
  • • Assist with compilation of budgets (up to 5 year planning horizon)
  • • To enhance the project management lead skills within TPM team and whole engineering department.
  • • To improve customer (internal and external) satisfaction and confidence by showing full control of the development activities and good technical communication.
  • • To define and negotiate engineering objectives and priorities with the program team and ensure the priorities are shared and agreed with the Programmes Director.
  • • Participate in Engineering processes improvement

Job requirements

  • • Knowledge and Experience commensurate with having led several developments as lead engineer and project manager for different customers.
  • • Knowledge of Pitstone Engineering processes in the area of Project Management
  • • Good interpersonal skills Experience with interacting with colleagues in UK, Europe, and far East
  • • Proactive and energetic style
  • • Candidate must have strong leadership skills within ability to gain credibility within the stakeholder audience, including peers, management and customers.
  • • Competent in using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access tools
  • • Expert user in Microsoft Project
  • • Competent in using SAP
  • • Ability to generate and maintain performance metrics to measure the quality and delivery performance.

  • • Evidence of written English at interview stage. This will be through providing certification of a formal English or technical qualification studied in the UK or overseas in English. If this cannot be provided you will be required to complete and pass an online SHL English comprehension test as part of the interview process.
