Job description

In order to develop and expand the capabilities of SAFRAN Engineering Services in the UK, a Design Engineer Lead role is required to support developments of Aerospace Cabin interior activities.

Complementary description

Lead Design activities and act as Technical Focal for project(s).

Manage the execution of the work packages identified and ensure the convergence of the delivery plans with customer requirements.

Define the budgets required for the execution of work packages identified.

Coordinate the allocation and execution of technical activities between him/herself, other team member onsite, and the offsite team.

Define design solutions for new components / assemblies and modifications to existing components (Composites and metallic) according to cost, weight, quality, manufacturability, serviceability and performance.

To provide evidence of design compliance with Customer / Technical specifications.

Prepare drawings and other engineering data required for the manufacturing of the product and data submittal to the customer.

Produce ECN as required to support manufacturing, customers, quality, and certification.

Ensure own and teams quality of deliveries. Verify, check and sign off on Program co-workers' engineering drawings.

To work rigorously to Safran group procedures.

Lead the progress review meetings with the customer project team to report progress on the work packages.

Report KPI and alignment with budget for work packages in progress and deliveries.

Job requirements

Degree level or equivalent, MSc preferred, with a demonstrable experience in Design of Composite and/or metallic components.


Excellent knowledge of Aerospace Cabin Interior Systems (Galleys, Seats)

Excellent knowledge of computerised design and analysis methods (CATIA V5)

Experience with GD&T, (tolerance stack up)

Good experience of aerospace Composite (honeycomb) /Metallic materials and manufacturing processes

Good knowledge of Microsoft office

Knowledge of Smarteam

Customer focused/Ability to establish credibility with internal and external customers

Working knowledge of SAFRAN BMS documents, ECR's, Permits, Concessions.

Understanding of stress principles

Awareness of A/C industry standards, regulations and qualification requirements

Good verbal and written communication skills

Able to work to tight, demanding deadlines and customer demands

Ability to work effectively within an integrated project team

Awareness of PM+ methodology

Specificity of the job

Tine to be spent in Safran offices in South Wales & Gloucester.
