We are looking for a Principle Simulation Engineer to join our engineering team at our South Wales site in Cwmbran, in close proximity to both Cardiff and Bristol.

The Principal Simulation Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise with respect to dynamic analysis (non-linear explicit FEA) in supporting the development of all team members, risk mitigation on critical programs and continual process and methods improvement within the SSGB stress department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • • Where structural issues are identified ensure appropriate improvements have been recommended and alternate solutions assessed ensuring the optimum solution is identified.
  • • Leading/driving root cause analysis (e.g. 8D/Ishikawa)
  • • Liaise with Design, Certification, Manufacturing and other company departments as required.
  • • Liaise with external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies and other industrial organisations as required.
  • • Initiate, lead and provide expertise in continuous improvement of department processes in relation to dynamic analysis methods.
  • • When required directly provide technical support to the program specific stress teams to:
o Ensure that the risk of a certification test failure is managed effectively and minimised with the use of appropriate dynamic analytical methods and judgement.
o Review and approve non-linear explicit/crash FE models for seating products to support the design and certification process, plus the in-service life of the product.
o Review and approve stress and structural documentation to submit for internal/external customers and regulatory approval.
o Review and approve drawings, designs, concessions and repairs with respect to stress.
o Support the Design team in ensuring that products meet cost and weight targets.
  • • Manages self and technically supports all SSGB stress engineers to ensure tasks are completed to requirements on time.

Job requirements

You will be educated to at least degree level in a relevant engineering discipline, a MEng or PhD with a specialism in FEA, simulation, dynamics, materials or structures, would be advantageous.

You will have experience of working to industry codes, preferably within the aerospace industry, but comparable industries will be considered.

Demonstrable experience of preparing, reviewing and approving advanced non-linear explicit FEMs of large complex assemblies, ideally in Radioss. Preferably in the simulation of seating systems under dynamic crash loads, including the simulation of ATD's, seating restraint systems, airbags and soft foams.

You will possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to establish effective working relationships across departments.
