Lilium Aviation wins Grand Prize in Hello Tomorrow challenge

Tomorrow Grand Prize for its project concerning an electrically-powered private airplane with vertical takeoff and landing capability. This young German company won the €100,000 prize, while garnering excellent publicity.

Supported by a European Space Agency business incubation center, Lilium is developing a personal electric airplane with 30 mini-ducted fans. The first test flight is scheduled for 2017. It was designed to take off and land vertically, with a top speed of 400 km/h (249 mph).

Kalray

Kalray, is the European leader in new-generation processors for critical onboard systems. Founded in 2008 as a spin-off of the CEA-List, Kalray has more than twenty patents issued. This company, based in Orsay and Grenoble (both in France) has more than 60 employees and operates internationally.

Kalray has developed a new generation of silicon processors called MPPA (Massively Parallel Processor Array) with an industry-leading ratio of computing power/energy consumption for components this size. This is essential, especially for more electric aircraft.

In addition to new applications in aerospace, health monitoring and cybersecurity, Kalray has very promising opportunities in the automotive industry – notably for self-driving cars – and in data centers.

Safran partners Hello Tomorrow, a challenge for innovative startups from around the world

Paris, September 20, 2016.

Safran is one of the sponsors of "Hello Tomorrow" (Aeronautics category), a challenge for innovative startups from around the world. On October 13 and 14, 2016, it will bring together the top startups in ten categories and several thousand people for a Global Summit.

Following an initial selection phase lasting several months, Safran chose seven startups from the aerospace sector to take part in this challenge.

ISAE-SUPAERO, SAFRAN and the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation create an Innovative Propulsion Architecture chair

Safran has signed a sponsorship agreement with the ISAE-SUPAERO aeronautical engineering school and its foundation to create a world-class academic center of expertise and research focusing on innovative propulsion architectures. The center will be active in three areas: education and in-service training, research and international development.
