Lilium Aviation wins Grand Prize in Hello Tomorrow challenge

Tomorrow Grand Prize for its project concerning an electrically-powered private airplane with vertical takeoff and landing capability. This young German company won the €100,000 prize, while garnering excellent publicity.

Supported by a European Space Agency business incubation center, Lilium is developing a personal electric airplane with 30 mini-ducted fans. The first test flight is scheduled for 2017. It was designed to take off and land vertically, with a top speed of 400 km/h (249 mph).

SafetyLine is a leading specialist in data analytics applications for flight operations. Founded in 2010 by Pierre Jouniaux, former pilot and lead investigator with the French civil aviation enquiry and safety agency BEA (Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses), Safety Line now has 18 employees. It offers a range of innovative services, including OptiClimb (personalized optimization of fuel consumption for each flight) and Airside Watch (improved airport operations based on radar data).

Building on its knowledge of the aviation environment and expertise in big data processing, developed largely through a partnership with the French IT and automation research institute INRIA (Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique), the company now counts nearly 40 airline and airport customers in France and abroad.

Safran partners Hello Tomorrow, a challenge for innovative startups from around the world

Paris, September 20, 2016.

Safran is one of the sponsors of "Hello Tomorrow" (Aeronautics category), a challenge for innovative startups from around the world. On October 13 and 14, 2016, it will bring together the top startups in ten categories and several thousand people for a Global Summit.

Following an initial selection phase lasting several months, Safran chose seven startups from the aerospace sector to take part in this challenge.

ISAE-SUPAERO, SAFRAN and the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation create an Innovative Propulsion Architecture chair

Safran has signed a sponsorship agreement with the ISAE-SUPAERO aeronautical engineering school and its foundation to create a world-class academic center of expertise and research focusing on innovative propulsion architectures. The center will be active in three areas: education and in-service training, research and international development.
