As a major tier-1 supplier to the aerospace and defense industries, Safran has a broad range of customers, including airplane and helicopter manufacturers, airlines and armed forces. Driven by operational excellence and the digital transformation, Safran's teams are putting their energy and ability to innovate to work for all Group customers in order to become their partner of choice.
Airplane and helicopter manufacturers
As a world-class aircraft engine and equipment manufacturer, Safran naturally works with most airframers from around the world (Airbus, Boeing, Comac, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Bombardier, Airbus Helicopters, Bell, Leonardo, HAL, etc.). We supply products and services for aircraft in all market segments: narrowbody and widebody commercial airplanes, regional and business aircraft and helicopters. Over time, we have formed key partnerships with these manufacturers, supporting them throughout the lifecycle of their products, from development to in-service support, including testing and entry into service.
Airlines and other operators
Safran’s business model is also based on direct equipment sales to airlines, leasing companies and helicopter operators, after being chosen by aircraft manufacturers for the model in question. Our products include engines, wheels and brakes, cabin interiors, passenger and crew seats, in-flight entertainment systems and much more. Airlines and other operators also call on our support services, spanning maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and the sale of spare parts.
Defense: governments, armed forces and industry
Safran offers solutions for armies, air forces and navies, which means that we work with governments and armed forces as a key contributor to national defense. Safran also counts various industry counterparts as its customers in the defense market, including Thales, Airbus, KNDS, BAE Systems, MBDA, Leonardo, Saab AB, Dassault Aviation, Naval Group, General Dynamics Land Systems, CMI, etc.
Space: government and satellite manufacturer customers
Safran operates in the satellite launch vehicle market through its subsidiary ArianeGroup (a 50/50 joint company between Safran and Airbus). One of our main customers is the European Space Agency (ESA), which has overall responsibility for the Ariane 5 and Ariane 6 launcher programs, with ArianeGroup as prime contractor. We also market a complete range of thrusters and propulsion systems for satellites used by spacecraft manufacturers Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defense & Space, SSL, Astranis and Boeing. In the field of ground stations, our equipment and solutions are dedicated to space agencies, satellite manufacturers, satellite ground systems providers, launch vehicle manufacturers and service operators. In addition, we’re the world leader in high-performance optics for astronomy and space applications. Our major customers are space agencies and prime contractors from around the world, as well as governments and institutions, in particular for major international scientific programs such as giant telescopes. Safran is also active in the military market as a major contributor to both ballistic and tactical missiles.
Safran worldwide: close support for all customers
Safran has more than 270 facilities in 30 countries, spanning North and South America, Africa, the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. Our global presence means we build sustainable relationships with all customers, based on a quick response and local service. For example, we have MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) centers in all major aviation hubs, an international network of repair facilities and seamless customer support to provide quick and effective solutions to airlines and other operators. We also have facilities located near the final assembly lines of our airplane and helicopter manufacturer customers to facilitate product integration.
