Safran employees work in Aviation Valley
Aerospace
Safran has established a solid presence in "Aviation Valley", a region in southeast Poland including a number of production facilities for the aircraft industry, mainly through Safran Transmission Systems Poland. Founded in 2001, this company makes a variety of mechanical components, including for the accessory drive trains on the CFM56® and LEAP® engines from CFM International (a 50/50 joint company between Safran and GE), and the low-pressure compressors on the GP7200, CFM56 and GE9X engines.
With Aero Gearbox International, a 50/50 joint company between Rolls-Royce and Safran Transmission Systems, Safran also has a local company dedicated to the production of accessory drive trains for Rolls-Royce's commercial aircraft engines. One of this plant's first products is the accessory drive trains for the Trent 7000 engine that will power the Airbus A330neo jetliner.
In 2016, Safran Aircraft Engines Poland oversaw the construction of a production plant dedicated to components for the LEAP® engine, enabling Safran to support its customers on new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX and Comac C919.
CFM56® engines power about 50 commercial jets for several Polish airlines, including LOT and Enter Air. Safran also provides the turboshaft engines for about 30 civil helicopters deployed in Poland.
Defense
Poland is one of the 30 countries worldwide to deploy the JIM family of multifunction infrared binoculars designed and built by Safran. JIM is a state-of-the-art device used by both command and front-line units for threat detection, precision target designation and intelligence gathering. Safran supplies the fire control system for PT91 tanks, exported to Malaysia, as well as thermal imagers for the modernization of Polish-designed air defense systems.
Safran, a local partner
Safran plays an active role in the Aviation Valley community. Safran Transmission Systems Poland has teamed up for several years already with the Technical University of Rzeszów, which trains young people in the region for aviation industry jobs. Safran helps also develop the curiculum in Podkarpacie Region to tailor training to match the needs of this industry. In addition, Safran worked with the University of Technology in Rzeszów and a dozen other universities, plus several companies, on a research project concerning innovative materials for aviation applications.
