Switzerland Safran, a key player in high-tech fields of activity

Safran has more than 350 employees in Switzerland, split between three sites. The Group has been present for a number of years and carries out highly technical work, relating particularly to optronics and MEMS (silicon-based micro-sensors).

Safran is a key supplier of aircraft equipment to the Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft.

Defense

Safran has a strong presence in the Swiss defense market, in particular via Safran Vectronix AG, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense.

Aerospace

Safran supplies the electrical power generation systems for some of the aircraft from the Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Ltd, such as the Porter PC-6, PC-7 MkII, PC-9 M, PC-12 NG and PC-21. The Group supplies starter-generators, generator control units and air intakes for these programs, and provides the associated customer support and service throughout an aircraft’s life.

Defense

In Switzerland, Safran Vectronix AG, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense, specializes in optics, electronics, laser technologies, precision mechanics, software development and system integration for civil and military applications. For instance, Safran Electronics & Defense and Safran Vectronix AG co-develop and co-produce portable optronics systems for the armies, such as MOSKITO TI binoculars and the Sterna portable target acquisition solution.

The Group is also a leading partner in the program to modernize the Swiss infantry (Integriertes Modulares Einsatzsystem Schweizer Soldat - IMESS) and is supplying it with all the optronics equipment.

Safran is also working alongside many European businesses, including the Swiss company RUAG, in developing the nEUROn program, the demonstrator for the future European UCAV. One of the objectives of this project is to create synergies between the skills and expertise of several European high-technology groups working in aeronautics and defense.

Support for innovation

Safran Sensing Technologies Switzerland, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense, is a world-class expert in inertial micro-sensors (acceleration and vibration) based on MEMS silicon technologies. Through this company, Safran broadens its technological portfolio with navigation and stabilization solutions. It is currently developing new MEMS applications in areas such as earthquake management, preventive maintenance and tactical navigation, and in several other industrial sectors.
