Singapore Safran, a major player in local industry

Safran has been present in Singapore for over 45 years, in the aeronautics and defense markets. It has nearly 700 employees spread over four production, engineering and maintenance sites, and is a major player in local industry.

Our activities

Aerospace

Safran provides MRO services for its own equipment (engines, landing gear and avionics systems) for a great many local airlines including Singapore Airlines, Silkair and Tigerair/Scoot, and establishes close partnerships with them.

Defense

Safran is a long-standing partner of the Singapore armed forces.

Aerospace

Safran is recognized across Asia for the excellence of its customer service, based essentially in Singapore, now the Group's regional MRO platform. The maintenance center for landing gear, Safran Landing Systems, located in Loyang Crescent, offers a wide range of MRO services to customers in south-east Asia. China Eastern Airlines has chosen Safran to maintain its fleet of Airbus A320s and A330s.

There has been a repair facility at Loyang Drive since 2008 that supplies spare parts and the equipment and logistics for maintaining aircraft equipment such as seats, cabin interiors, evacuation slides, lighting, toilets, etc. The Group is also involved in several joint ventures with local partners, such as that of Safran Electronics Asia with SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), which manages customer support and MRO services for avionics equipment and components.

In 2016, Safran Helicopter Engines, which has been in Singapore for 25 years, opened a new regional hub in order to strengthen its relationships with its customers in the Asia-Pacific region. It has an area of over 3,500 m2 and its sole activity is maintaining helicopter engines. This new facility and its leading-edge infrastructures increase the Group’s industrial capacity significantly, enabling it to provide an increasingly efficient after-sales service, for instance to the Singapore Air Force.

Defense

In 2013, the Singapore Navy reaffirmed its confidence in the Group's equipment by ordering Gun Fire Control Systems (GFCS) and inertial reference units (SIGMA40) from Safran Electronics & Defense to equip its eight Littoral Mission Vessels. The Singapore Navy already has six Formidable-class frigates and four Endurance-class LST amphibious ships that use this system.

Support for innovation

Safran is convinced that Singapore has industrial potential, and places great importance on collaborative research and innovation with the city state. Since 2010, Safran has been a member of the aerospace consortium of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). This is a group of public-sector laboratories, supervised by the Singapore Economic Development Board, which promotes technology skills to aid businesses.

The Group thus participates in several research projects launched by the consortium, in areas such as wireless pressure sensors or non-destructive testing technologies (used in maintenance and repair work).
