The Group produced the first galley inserts in 1946 in the Netherlands, for aircraft belonging to the Dutch airline KLM. At the Alkmaar site, Safran designs and markets galleys for A320 aircraft and electric inserts. Its product range also includes crew rest areas for A330s and A340s. The Alkmaar site also has a cabin innovation center.
Academic partnerships with leading universities
In 2010, the Alkmaar site formed a partnership with Delft University of Technology. The site also works closely with the Free University of Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the University of Twente, Saxon University of Applied Sciences and Inholland University of Applied Sciences (in Alkmaar and Haarlem). Each year, students from several of these universities work as internes, or carry out projects for their master’s degree, or pursue doctorate programs at Alkmaar.
