Rocket propulsion has been a core strategic objective at Safran for a number of decades. We understand and apply all enabling technologies for both solid and liquid (cryogenic) propulsion.
Access to space in a major part of nations' strategic independence and sovereignty. A key for the European Union and France of course, this objective also guides strategy at Safran, a partner in the Ariane launcher program since the outset, with support from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French space agency CNES. Safran is the prime contractor for the cryogenic propulsion systems on Europe's Ariane 5 launcher, setting the standard in cost-effectiveness and performance.
Safran is also a major player in the satellite market, with more than 30 years of experience in chemical and electric propulsion systems for attitude and orbit control. Satellite applications are increasingly important in our daily lives, from observation and broadcasting, to mobile apps and satellite navigation.

Solid rocket motors, like the boosters on Ariane 5, require a solid propellant that provides the huge amounts of energy needed for liftoff.
