France created the Civil Aviation Research Council, or CORAC, in July 2008, reflecting commitments made during the Grenelle Environment Forum in late 2007.
Following in the footsteps of Acare – the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe – Corac is supported by France’s civil aviation directorate DGAC and aerospace industry association Gifas. It brings together all French air transport players, including industry, airlines, airports, research organizations, government ministries, etc.
Corac aims to coordinate France’s research & technology efforts in aviation, with a focus on environmental protection and sustainable development.
For instance, the Council has already established a technology roadmap for French civil aviation research, which provides the foundations for an ambitious strategy to bring the environmental footprint of air transport under control by about 2020.
As a leading aerospace corporation, Safran is of course a member of Corac, with a seat on the steering committee, and staff who participate in various working groups.
