Industrial processes

Improving our industrial processes

Safran continuously improves its production and maintenance processes to make them more environmentally-friendly.

The design of aerospace, defense and security products is governed by extremely demanding regulations to guarantee reliability and safety. The meticulous approach characteristic of these high-tech sectors has a major impact on industrial processes. Because of long development cycles in the aircraft industry, with demanding operating conditions and long life spans (up to 40 years), both design and production are strictly controlled. However, whenever possible, we continue to change and improve these processes. Cleaner, more effective production processes are applied to decrease the discharges, limit releases and encourage recycling and energy efficiency.

ISO 14001 certification

Safran uses ISO 14001 certification as a management tool to identify and control the environmental impact of our activities. This certification symbolizes a formal commitment to continuous improvement: improving performance depends on more effective prevention of pollution, and controlling the gaseous or liquid industrial effluents generated by our activities.

Case study: recycling rinsing liquids

The surface treatment process has been changed to limit, or even eliminate releases of liquid effluents. Since 2003, our surface treatment workshops have called on a central filtration and neutralization unit to reuse the same rinsing products. This enables recycling some 8,500 cubic meters of water each year, thus eliminating excessive consumption and releases into the environment.
