Environmental impact

Limiting our environmental impact

To meet today’s ecological challenge, Safran is deploying a comprehensive strategy to reduce its environmental footprint, based on more environmentally-friendly product design and sustainable management of our production facilities.

© DR

Safran faces four major environmental challenges: climate change; the increasing scarcity of natural resources; noise and pollution around airports; and management of chemical substances. We are working on many different fronts to meet these challenges and support sustainable development in our core aerospace and defense sectors. Working with other stakeholders, we have launched a number of large-scale research programs, both national and European, to develop more environmentally-friendly products.

We apply a comprehensive approach, taking into account the entire life cycle of our products and the full scope of our Group. By designing cleaner and quieter engines, plus lighter aircraft equipment, and producing them in "greener" plants, Safran reduces its environmental footprint.

Clean Sky

The European research program Clean Sky was launched in 2008 and will run for seven years. It is equally funded by the aviation industry and the European Commission. Clean Sky aims to meet ambitious environmental objectives by identifying and developing key enabling technologies. Safran plays a very active role in Clean Sky, with Group companies participating in many of its projects.
