This school will receive each year some 400 schoolgirls from underprivileged backgrounds. NUIT DE LA CREATION IN BORDEAUX AND MONTREAL

The “Nuit de la creation“ (“Night of creation“) is an event dedicated to musical and choreographic works composed and performed by young artistes in training at Bordeaux Conservatory. It helps to promote, in France and abroad, the know-how of the Conservatory with regard to creation and teaching innovation. In 2010, this event took place to a rapturous reception in both Bordeaux and Montreal (Canada), in the framework of a partnership with various institutions. Having already partnered this event in 2009, the Safran Group continues to underline its commitment to the showcasing of creative young talent.

2005-2009

Secours populaire

The Secours Populaire is a major French charitable institution that offers emergency and long-term aid to individuals and families in situations of social exclusion both in France and abroad.

In the framework of its solidarity patronage policy, Safran has been running an ambitious partnership with the Secours Populaire over several years. Between 2004 and 2007, the Group financed the organization of four operations offering hundreds of children and their families the opportunity to discover in an entertaining way the world of high technology, the province of expertise of the Group and all those who work for it.

In 2004, Safran initiated the operation entitled "La tête dans les étoiles" ("Head in the stars"), enabling 12 young people receiving the support of the Secours Populaire to discover the Kourou launch base and other notable sites in French Guiana.

On the strength of the success of this initiative and the enthusiasm shown by the young participants, the Group renewed its action in 2006 and sent 24 young people to experience an unforgettable stay in the United States with, notably, a visit to the Cape Canaveral launch center and a meeting with the astronaut, Léopold Eyharts. That same year the Group also opened the doors of its Aviation and Space Museum at Villaroche (Seine-et-Marne) to over 250 people receiving the support of the Secours Populaire.

In 2007, Safran invited almost 300 families from the southwest of France to spend a weekend at the Futuroscope in Poitiers. Organized around the time of the start of the new school year, the main objective of this operation was to show children that it was possible to learn and to find out about science while having fun.

Fondation d’Auteuil

A recognized charity, the Fondation d’Auteuil has taken in, educated and found placements for over 10,000 young people with serious social, educational and domestic difficulties. The Fondation d’Auteuil works essentially in France, where it has approximately 170 reception centers.

With the equality of opportunity in matters of education and training being a core concern of the Group and all its employees, Safran has been involved in five initiatives in partnership with the Fondation d’Auteuil since 2007, thus firmly establishing its long-term support credentials.

In 2007, the Group received 70 students, aged from 12 to 23, and under the supervision of the Fondation d’Auteuil, to visit its Aviation and Space Museum at Villaroche (Seine-et-Marne). Among the participants, 16 students of mechanical engineering with the aviation option were able to benefit from a visitor program tailored to their curriculum.

Safran renewed its support for the Fondation d’Auteuil in 2008 by inviting 15 children to take part in a week-long sailing school at Trinité-sur-Mer, where they were able to get to know Marc Guillemot, the skipper of the SAFRAN monohull.

The Group also laid on a Solidarity concert in 2008 featuring the Orchestre de l’Alliance, with the profits going to the Foundation.

In 2009, many children from the Fondation d’Auteuil were able to share in another great adventure proposed by the Group. They took part in a stage of the Aerial Tour de France organized by the "Chevaliers du Ciel" and were thus able to experience their first taste of flying, to the delight of all concerned.

Towards the end of the year, the Group also invited 130 children from the Fondation d’Auteuil to visit the Eana (Normandy) site, a theme park dedicated to sustainable development. This SAFRAN initiative formed part of the education and training project of the Fondation d’Auteuil on this topic.

The "Saisons de la Solidarité" ("Seasons of Solidarity") of the Orchestre de l’Alliance (formerly called the Orchestre des Musiciens de la Prée))

Founded in 1995 by the cellist, Pejman Memarzadeh, the Orchestre de l’Alliance is made up of young professionals out of some of Europe’s greatest music academies. The ensemble has always promoted the social dimension of its artistic endeavors through its commitment to various solidarity actions, an example being the "Saisons de la Solidarité" ("Seasons of Solidarity"), initiated by the Orchestra in October 2005, and which is an annual cycle of four concerts, with all receipts being donated to humanitarian associations.

Through its solidarity patronage policy, the Group testifies to its desire to combine its social and cultural commitments. This is why, since 2007, Safran has provided its support to five of the concerts of the "Saisons de la Solidarité", in aid of good causes. Many of the Group’s employees have been able to play their part in this.

In 2007, the first concert supported by the Group helped contribute to the national collection fund for Neurodon, an action of the French Brain Research Federation (frc.asso.fr), for financing research into the brain and brain illnesses.

Particularly keen to sustain this partnership, the Group renewed its commitment in 2008 by supporting three concerts at the Salle Gaveau in Paris in aid of ELA, the European Leukodystrophy Association (ela-asso.com), Aviation sans Frontières (asf-fr.org) and the Fondation d’Auteuil, in the latter case helping to finance a "social welfare children’s home".

In 2009, the Group pursued its partnership with its support of a gala evening to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the French Red Cross (www.croix-rouge.fr). All the ticket receipts were donated to the organization in order to improve the reception environment for young disabled children by offering them learning toys and aids to intellectual and motor-skills development, so essential to their growth and progress.

Ambition: success

In 2008 the Group signed up to an ambitious project involving the Orchestre de l’Alliance, the French National Ministry of Education and the three school boards of Paris, Créteil and Versailles. Through combining in this way the social and cultural commitments of the Group, this operation once again testifies to the particular attention paid by Safran and all its employees to the major social issues of our time.

So it was that Safran invited, in March 2008, some 800 children from inner-city schools and, in particular, from the "Ambition Réussite" ("Ambition: success") networks, to a classical music concert featuring the Orchestre de l’Alliance, at the Salle Gaveau, Paris.

The performance of works by Beethoven, Wagner and Schumann captivated the pupils, for many of whom this was the first classical music concert that they had ever experienced.

This initiative was repeated in March 2009.

Aerial Tour de France of the Chevaliers du Ciel

The "Chevaliers du Ciel" ("Knights of the Sky") have, since 1997, organized an annual Aerial Tour de France entitled "Rêves de Gosse" ("A Child’s Dream"). The objective of its organizers is to enable "special" children, affected by disability or illness, and "ordinary" children to get together and work alongside one another on a teaching project based on the topic of aviation. An initiation flight and all kinds of fun activities, indulged in together, are at the heart of this great adventure.

In 2008, the Group initiated a partnership by supporting the team of pilots taking part in this Aerial Tour.

The following year, Safran looked to extend its partnership by welcoming, on May 27, the 6th stage of the 2009 Aerial Tour de France to the site of the Safran Aviation and Space Museum and the Villaroche aerodrome. The Fondation d’Auteuil, a regular beneficiary of Safran’s patronage, was the educational partner of this particular "Rêves de Gosse" initiative, which brought together over 140 children. Jean-Paul Herteman, Safran Chief Executive, placed his own flying skills at the disposal of the children, serving as the pilot for the first flight of the day.

Snecma Propulsion Solide and Labinal (Safran group) also provided their support to the 2009 Aerial Tour de France of the Chevaliers du Ciel, thereby demonstrating once again the unanimous commitment of the Group, its companies and its employees when it comes to issues of solidarity.
