MI-SA YANG, violonist
For four years, the Safran corporate foundation for music has supported the annual cycle: “Jeunes talents - Premières Armes“ (“Young talent – First Arms“), organized by the Musée de l’Armée against the prestigious backdrop of Les Invalides. This musical season of considerable renown includes, among its highlights, the awarding of the special “Safran corporate foundation for music“ prize, which in 2010 went to Mi-Sa Yang, a young violinist from South Korea. This emblematic prize serves to raise the profile of its recipient artistes, in particular by helping to get them invited to many festivals.
JULIEN LESTEL, choreographer
Trained at the Dance School of the Ballet National de l’Opéra de Paris and at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, Julien Lestel founded his own dance troupe in 2006. A creator of several ballets, this music enthusiast has chosen to collaborate with young composers. By undertaking to support the choreographer, Julien Lestel, in the musical creation of his new dance show, the Safran corporate foundation for music remains faithful to its mission to support talented young individuals in their professional growth.

PERIGORD NOIR FESTIVAL
A feature of the cultural landscape of the Aquitaine region in general and the Périgord province in particular, the Festival du Périgord Noir is today recognized for the quality of its program and the international renown of the artistes invited to perform on its prestigious heritage sites.
Since 2009, the Safran Foundation for Music has provided its support to this festival through a concert celebrating its prize-winning performers. Past guest performers have been the pianists David Greilsammer and Natacha Kudritskaya, viola player Arnaud Thorette, violinists Fanny Clamagirand and Mi-Sa Yang, and the cellist, Maja Bogdanovic.

For its fifth year of existence, the Safran Foundation for Music was involved in 17 projects, thus reinforcing its action to promote young talent or groups of musicians in the form of direct support to artistes or through supporting musical venues.

Cité de la Musique
The Cité de la Musique at the Parc de la Villette, Paris, conceived a project, in association with the French Ministry for National Education, entitled: "Chamber music in the suburbs" ("Musique de chambre dans les quartiers") aimed at young people aged from 10 to 14 from the sensitive suburbs, in order to get them started in learning a string instrument (violin, viola, cello) and familiarize them with cultural institutions.
The Safran Foundation for Music chose to support this innovative project, so enabling 30 young people to enjoy an intense collective experience, culminating in a public performance at the Salle Pleyel in Paris in June 2010, designed to crown their commitment and hard work over several months.
David Bismuth
Very early on, David Bismuth revealed himself to be one of the most promising pianists of the younger generation. Trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, successively under the tutorship of Gabriel Tacchino and Brigitte Engerer, today he gives over 40 concerts per year, worldwide.
Since 2008, the Safran Foundation for Music has carefully tracked the career of this young musician, while supporting him on his recording projects. In 2009, the Foundation contributed to the recording of his new disk dedicated to Schumann, the bicentenary of whose birth is celebrated in 2010. David Bismuth, accompanied by other artistes, enjoyed rapturous applause at the annual Group concert in December 2009, in the Salle Gaveau, Paris.

"Jeunes Talents" Association
The "Jeunes Talents" ("Young Talent") Association, created in 1998, helps promote young musicians and talented singers who have not yet received public recognition. Every year it organizes over 100 concerts which lead these artistes to perform in prestigious or unlikely locations, such as hospitals or social centers (the Association being keen to place the social dimension at the heart of its approach).
The Safran Foundation for Music, in its desire to marry the cultural and solidarity commitments of the Group, offered its support to this Association in 2009 for the organization of several concert cycles, in particular those performed at Aulnay-sous-Bois. These allowed a public from modest backgrounds to access some of the greatest moments of classical music. The "Jeunes Talents" Association also works on joint projects in conjunction with another structure that is aided by the Foundation: the "NEO – New European Opera" Association, dedicated to the professional integration of young singers.

Since the teaching of young musicians is a long-term endeavor, the Safran Foundation for Music decided in 2008 to renew its support for promising young talent, while at the same time selecting new projects that are both innovative and of high quality.

Every year, in partnership with the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Musée de l’Armée organizes at the Invalides a cycle entitled: "Jeunes talents - Premières Armes" ("Young talent - First Arms"), laid on in the framework of a highly-rated musical season.
For four years, the Foundation has been supporting this initiative. A "Safran Foundation for Music" special prize rewards, through the active participation and voting of the public, one of the artistes performing in this season. In 2008, the prize was awarded to the cellist of Serbian origin, Maja Bogdanovic.

Fanny Clamagirand
Born in 1984, this young and talented violinist, the winner of numerous prizes including the prestigious Prince Rainier III de Monaco prize, forced her way onto the international scene through the quality and maturity of her playing. She is invited to play at the top festivals and performs as a soloist with the best orchestras.
In 2008, Fanny Clamagirand received the support of the Safran Foundation for Music for recording her first disk dedicated to the composer, Eugène Ysaÿe. Accompanied by the Ysaÿe Quartet, she performed at the Salle Gaveau, Paris, in December 2008, at the Group’s annual concert.

Musée du Louvre
Since 1989, the Auditorium at the Musée du Louvre has been proposing a rich, eclectic and multidisciplinary program, including a remarkable cycle of international-standard classical music concerts.
Since 2006, the Safran Foundation for Music has offered its support to a number of concert cycles featuring young talent at the Auditorium. What is more, in the framework of the program: "The Louvre invites Pierre Boulez", the Foundation offered its specific support to a concert by this great orchestral conductor. Stravinsky’s "Firebird" was played under the pyramid of the Louvre on December 2, 2008.

2007
In 2007, the Safran Foundation for Music turned its attention to initiatives aimed at promoting tomorrow’s talent, via personalized support of young artistes or financial aid to institutions which offer them the possibility of performing in front of audiences who are delighted to welcome this rising generation of new talent.

Arnaud Thorette
This young musician, aged just 30, has built a reputation over the last few years as one of the most promising viola players of his generation. Arnaud Thorette has won four international competitions as well as a dozen national prizes in France, including the Prix de l’Académie Ravel. A passionate enthusiast of all musical genres, he frequently performs on the best stages, with some choice partners from the world of chamber music.
The Safran Foundation for Music, whose prime mission is to promote young talent, offered its support to Arnaud Thorette in 2007 for his work on a major recording project, involving four recordings. Keen to provide its support over the long-term, the Foundation had already begun to offer its support to this artiste in 2005 and 2006, providing him with a study grant and financial aid for making a record.

David Greilsammer
Applauded by the public, lauded by his peers, this young pianist (32 years-old) is a virtuoso with an audacious and eclectic touch. David Greilsammer regularly performs in prestigious concert halls from Paris to New York, as a soloist or under the baton of the greatest orchestral conductors. He has, in particular, given a recital at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, on the occasion of the Safran group’s annual concert in December 2007.
The Safran Foundation for Music has supported him since 2007 in his professional and artistic rise to prominence. Following his nomination as "Instrumental Soloist Revelation" at the Victoires de la Musique 2008, the Foundation renewed its support for him in 2009 with a view to carrying through an ambitious recording project.

Maîtrise de Paris
The Maîtrise de Paris is a department of the CRR (Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris - Paris Regional Conservatory). The pupils, recruited from the age of eight, receive comprehensive training: singing, choir, musical theory, vocal technique and learning an instrument. The Maîtrise de Paris performs regularly in France and abroad with some major conductors. Its artistic director is Patrick Marco.
In 2007, the Safran Foundation for Music provided support to the Maîtrise de Paris in order to help it best discharge its mission: namely, to develop the practice of choral singing among young amateur singers being trained in this establishment. The Foundation looks to continue with its support of the Maîtrise de Paris in 2008 and 2009.

2006
With the intent of ensuring its lasting commitment, the Safran Foundation for Music pursued in 2006 the support that it had granted the previous year to several initiatives, while also remaining keen to identify and support new projects.

Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and John Nelson
Backed by 30 years of success, the Ensemble orchestral de Paris has consolidated its status as France’s benchmark chamber orchestra. John Nelson, its conductor, is renowned worldwide for his interpretations of great romantic works.
In 2005 and 2006, the Safran Foundation for Music offered its support to John Nelson and his orchestra, whose approach is solidly grounded in good citizenship, through their concern to invest every corner of the city and address every type of public. The Foundation has thus helped the orchestra to fulfill its ambitious project to record all of Beethoven’s 9 symphonies.

Festival Lyrique-en-Mer
Since 1997, the Lyrique-en-Mer festival at Belle-Ile proposes to a wide audience an exceptional music program involving artistes from around the World, played out against the backdrop of the Citadelle Vauban, a classified historical monument.
The Safran Foundation for Music supported the Festival in 2006, to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart, for the performances of the opera, Don Giovanni. The Foundation has contributed to the development of the Festival and to its educational projects, which serve as a genuine launch pad for many a young lyrical talent. The Foundation continued to provide its support in 2007, underpinning the promotional initiatives undertaken by the Festival.

Stéphane Blet
A composer and virtuoso pianist, and former assistant to Vladimir Horowitz, Stéphane Blet was discovered at the age of 15 by the famous American pianist, Byron Janis, who considered him to be his spiritual son and invited him to work with him in New York. He then embarked on a brilliant international career as a concert pianist, playing in the World’s top concert halls and making many records.
The Safran Foundation for Music contributed to the recording of one of Stéphane Blet’s disks.

Festival de la Vézère
Since 1981, the Festival de la Vézère has welcomed French and international artistes to play at heritage sites in the Limousin region, and has built up a considerable reputation over the years.
The Safran Foundation for Music offered its support in 2005 to the Festival de la Vézère, in order to assist it in its efforts to open up the world of classical music to a diversified regional public.
